NUCA Now Accepting William H. Feather Safety Award Submissions
William H. Feather Safety Awards are awarded to NUCA contractor member companies that have the best safety records in five categories according to total man-hours worked. Winners in each category are selected on the basis of injury frequency data, a short safety management statement and company safety program information. If your company is accustomed to a culture of safe work practices and this commitment is reflected in a strong safety record in 2008, we encourage you to submit an application (available at www.nuca.com under “Awards Program”).
Any contractor, associate or institutional member of the NUCA may submit a project(s). A panel of judges selected by the Awards Committee will evaluate the entries and choose the overall winners in each of five categories based on the number of company employees. All complete and timely entries will be recognized in Utility Contractor magazine.
Completed applications with all supporting materials must be submitted to NUCA by Feb. 27. The winners will be recognized at the Seventh Annual Awards Dinner during NUCA’s 2009 Spring Meetings and Washington Summit, May 18-20, Hotel Monaco,
Alexandria (“Old Town”), Va. If you have any questions, please contact either George Kennedy (518) 885-2560 or Courtney Croll (703) 358-9300.

On Dec. 6, 2008, the National Utility Contractors Association of Las Vegas held its annual Holiday Dinner/Auction at the Golden Nugget Hotel/Casino. Some 120 guests enjoyed a cocktail hour while entering their silent auction bids in the foyer outside the main dining room. Now in his third four-year term, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman addressed the group and autographed his bobblehead doll for the live auction that followed dinner.
Awards were presented to outstanding chapter members for their contributions throughout the year. The 2008 President, Larry Fortin, conducted the installation ceremony for 2009 President David Rice and the remaining officers and directors. Conducted by Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the live auction garnered 10 times the amount of the previous year. The event was such a success that the Board of Directors has already reserved the same facility for the 2009 event.
